A Mechanism for LIBOR∗

چکیده
The investigations into LIBOR have highlighted that it is subject to manipulation. We propose a mechanism that gets banks to reveal their borrowing costs truthfully at no cost to the administrator. The mechanism works even when borrowing does not occur. First, banks report the rates at which they can borrow. Second, a whistleblower bank may contest another bank’s report by revealing a transaction or stating a different rate at which the reporting bank could borrow. Third, the whistleblower’s claim and the initial reported rate are confirmed or denied by the willingness of other banks to lend at these

LIBOR ’ s Poker : Interbank Borrowing Costs and Strategic Reporting ∗
The recent LIBOR scandals have demonstrated that the panel banks did not report in good faith, leading some to question whether LIBOR was ever accurate. This article derives the equilibrium LIBOR reporting strategy and quantifies the LIBOR bias. It finds that the current trimming mechanism cannot prevent LIBOR rigging, although the LIBOR gets less biased when the cross-sectional dispersion of t...
متن کاملUtilization of a 17 Microsatellites Set For Bovine Traceability in Czech Cattle Populations
For identification of individuals and parentage control performed by cattle breeders in the Czech Republic, a novel Finnish Bovine Genotypes™ Panel 3.1was amplified by means of one multiplex polymerase chain reaction. Bovine Panel encompasses all the 12 STR loci recommended by the International Society for Animal Genetics (ISAG) for routine use in parentage testing and identification, including...
متن کاملThe LIBOR mechanism and related games
The London InterBank Offered Rate (LIBOR) is the most important set of interest rate benchmarks. Recently there have been reports about systematic manipulation of the LIBOR. We thus investigate incentives and possibilities to rig the LIBOR or related statistics for quote submitting panel banks. Both reputation concerns and financial exposure to the index may lead to misrepresentation of borrowi...
متن کاملA permutation information theory tour through different interest rate maturities: the Libor case.
This paper analyses Libor interest rates for seven different maturities and referred to operations in British pounds, euros, Swiss francs and Japanese yen, during the period 2001-2015. The analysis is performed by means of two quantifiers derived from information theory: the permutation Shannon entropy and the permutation Fisher information measure. An anomalous behaviour in the Libor is detect...
متن کاملCredit Risk in Lévy Libor Modeling: Rating Based Approach
Preface Modeling of credit risk has become a very important and rapidly expanding field of mathematical finance in the last fifteen years. Apart from a purely academic interest, the credit derivatives industry clearly needs advanced mathematical models to objectively assess and hedge this kind of risk, which was only underlined by the recent financial crisis. Although there exist several credit...
